Edward Ewell is a 2020 MFA graduate of the American Conservatory Theater (ACT). He also holds an undergraduate degree from Yale. Eddie Ewell began his career working under his mentor, master actor, James Carpenter. Carpenter introduced him to Berkeley Repertory’s Casting Director Amy Potozkin, who gave him his first role, understudying The Angel in Tarell Alvin McCraney’s (Moonlight) Head of Passes. The production was directed by Tony-nominated director Tina Landau. After performing in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, Eddie was given opportunities to lead two productions, VS. (as slave turned Black Loyalist Colonel Tye) and Youngblood in August Wilson’s Jitney. During his MFA training at the American Conservatory Theater, he was directed by Tony-award winning director Pam MacKinnon (in A Christmas Carol) and was given a leading role in a workshop with Obie-award winning director Robert O’ Hara. Last summer, he led an incredible cast in James Ijames’s earth-shattering play Kill Move Paradise (the play was extended and sold out for most of the run), which has been performed all across the country to rave reviews. Though on hold due to the pandemic, Eddie is set to star in Antoinette Nwandu’s Passover (finalist for the Ruby prize), which received heightened acclaim due to the filmed version co-directed and produced by Spike Lee and released on Amazon in 2018. Pass Over is set to open at The Marin Theater Company in the summer of 2021, directed by Kevin R. Free.
